چکیده

An actual development of a real-time database management system (RT-DBMS) must confront many new and practical problems which have been often ignored in previous work based on simulation. In addition to transaction scheduling, an RT-DBMS must deal with resource and data contention and enforce timing constraints. This paper discusses how current real-time technology has been applied to architect an RT-DBMS on a real-time microkernel operating system and how the problems have been addressed. We present the current software architecture of our StarBase RT-DBMS and address how it can be extended to support both guaranteed and non-guaranteed transaction processing.

Real Time Dynamic Simulation of Power System Using Multiple Microcomputers

Recent developments in the design and manufacture of microcomputers together with improved simulation techniques make it possible to achieve the speed and accuracy required for the dynamic simulation of power systems in real time. This paper presents some experimental results and outlines new ideas on hardware architecture, mathematical algorithms and software development for this purpose. The ...

Integrating Standard Transactions in Firm Real-Time Database Systems

Real-time database systems are designed to handle workloads where transactions have completion deadlines and the goal is to meet these deadlines. However, many real-time database environments are characterized by workloads that are a & of real-time and standard (non-real-time) transactions. Unfortunately, the system policies used to meet the performance goals of real-time transactions often wor...

StarBase: A Firm Real-Time Database Manager for Time-Critical Applications - Real-Time Systems, 1995. Proceedings., Seventh Euromicro Workshop on

Previous work in real-time database management systems (RT-DBMS) has primarily focused on simulation. This paper discusses how current real-time technology has been applied to architect an actual RTDBMS on a real-time microkernel operating system. A real RT-DBMS must confront many practical issues which simulations typically ignore: race conditions, concurrency, and asynchrony. The challenge of...

Maintaining security and timeliness in real-time database system

Real-time database systems can have security constraints in addition to timing constraints. Such real-time systems are typically contained in environments that exhibit hierarchical propagation of information, where mandatory access control for security is required. Conventional multi-level secure database models that implement mandatory access control are inadequate for time-critical applicatio...

Performance Evaluation of a Firm Real-Time DataBase System - Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications, 1995. Proceedings., Second International Workshop on

In conventional database systems, performance is primarily measured by the number of transactions completed within a unit time. In real-time applications, timing and criticality characteristics of transactions must be taken into account. In this paper, we examine the performance of StarBase, a firm real-time database system. The deadline guarantee ratio and average response times are the primar...
